Mattresses of Amsterdam

“Between lived-through and dirty is nothing but the doorstep of your home, and that’s why you always see the mattress in the street, but never the person that put it there.”

from: Gilles van der Loo’s foreword

“The first time I took a picture of a dumped mattress was four years ago. For my job in home care I cycle through all of Amsterdam. On the corner of the Lijnbaansgracht, near the house of a client, a mattress was lying in the middle of the street. No one seemed to notice it being there. I thought it was a rather absurd situation.
